What smart TRVs actually do
TRV stands for thermostatic radiator valve. You've probably got them already — those plastic knobs on your radiators with numbers on. Smart TRVs replace those knobs and let you control each radiator individually.
So in the morning, only the bathroom and kitchen heat up. In the evening, the living room and bedrooms. The spare room stays cold until someone's actually staying over.
You're not heating less. You're heating smarter.
The bit people don't talk about
When you zone your heating like this, your boiler works less. The rooms that need heat get it. The rest don't call for it. Simple physics — less water to heat, less gas burned.

Does it all need to be fiddly
No. Once it's set up, you don't touch it. The system follows schedules you set once, or it learns when rooms are actually occupied. You can tweak it from your phone if you want. But mostly you just notice the house is comfortable and the bills are lower.
The boiler stays the same. The radiators stay the same. You're just swapping out the valve heads. It's probably the most boring smart home upgrade we do — and honestly one of the best.
